Lecture by Oleksandr Khomenko in Porto!

On January 7, 2026, in Porto, Ukrainian poet and director Oleksandr Khomenko will give a lecture entitled “Ukrainian Culture vs. Charles Darwin: The Ones Who Survive Are Not the Ones Who Adapt” (ua “Українська культура проти Чарльза Дарвіна: Виживає не той, хто пристосовується”). Oleksandr Khomenko, co-founder and frontman of the creative association “MUR”, screenwriter and director of the historical musicals “Ти [Романтика]” and “Ребелія [1991” will tell you how Ukrainian culture develops through disobedience, not adaptation.

Lecture “Ukrainian Culture Against Charles Darwin”!

Through key figures and turning points in Ukrainian history, Oleksandr Khomenko will explain why the usual Darwinian formula does not work, at least in the case of Ukraine. Despite oppression, destruction, and prohibitions, Ukrainians resist, rethink, and remain. The lecture was created specifically for an international educational tour, prepared in English for a global audience and for Ukrainians abroad who live between different cultural contexts.
